4 Basic Steps to Handle Conflicts

  • Clarifying the issue or problem.

Identify and clarify the issue or problem between you and the party concerned. You both need to take turns to explain your position. Each person MUST LISTEN to the other person's reason, Deal with one issue at a time.

  • Exploring options

List of all possible options you can think of to solve the problem. Everyone should have the freedom to suggest whatever comes to mind, without being censored or judged.

  • Making a choice

Arrive at an option that is acceptable to both. If both prefer different options, there may be a need to negotiate and compromise.

  • Putting the choice into action and evaluating

After agreeing on an option put it into practice to see how it works. you should ask yourself questions like "is it working?" "if not, why not?" "what needs to be changed?" If the solution is not working, you may need to reclarify the issue or go back to brainstorming solutions.
